Rob was fascinated with the textures and artistry of duck decoys, and he loved to paint an object outlined against the white of the paper. The result is bold and graphic and modern, even though the subject matter is rustic. In the ’80s and ’90s, he painted quite a few of these decoys. This one has beautiful subtleties of color throughout. Many of the decoys were painted for Ducks Unlimited, but several were sold through galleries and his studio.
This was found in his studio after Rob passed in 2017. It is matted and wrapped in plastic, but the mat is beat up on the corners and would likely need to be replaced before framing it. Painting is not framed.
